Finding a job as an English teacher in Thailand is easy when you’ve got all the right information.
Ajarn (ah – jahn) is a Thai word that translates to teacher, so ajarn.com is basically teacher.com. On ajarn.com, recruiters post openings for online, full-time, and part-time positions all over the country. Recruiters can also view profiles of prospective teachers through the site, so it’s a good idea to upload your resume there. On job posts, the expectations, responsibilities, and contact information for the school are listed. Ajarn.com is frequently updated, so be sure to check the site regularly for new positions. It’s a safe, secure, and well-known website to use when looking for a teaching position, so you don’t have to worry about any scams.
I know in the western world craigslist doesn’t have the best reputation, but in Thailand, it functions as a great forum to find odd jobs, real jobs, and everything in between. Thailand’s Craigslist has a general focus on Bangkok-area advertisements, which you’ll notice from the website, but you can use the search bar to input any city you want to teach in. Once you input your city, all the relevant opportunities will be displayed from the past to present for that location. I would highly recommend Craiglist, mainly because that’s where I found my excellent teaching position!
Another website I used was TeachingThailand. It’s a straightforward website that gives you access to thousands of teaching positions all over the country. Just like Craigslist, you can type in keywords and phrases into the search bar to narrow down your options. All of the openings have contact information in the listing, or you can apply directly through the website. TeachingThailand can be a bit of a hit or a miss, but sometimes you can strike gold on the site.
Thailand Teaching Jobs is a private Facebook group where schools and recruiters post about teaching positions. You’ll have to request to join, but the admin typically lets all prospective teachers in the group. The group is filled with job opportunities all over Thailand with new opportunities popping up about two or three times a day. If you’re looking for a position in a specific location, you can always type the city into the search bar and review what comes up. The group is safe and has an excellent reputation!
FINAL TIPS:
Thailand is a simple place. Sometimes taking it back to basics is the best way to get a position. Print out your resume, stop by schools, and ask if they’re hiring. Thai schools have been screwed over by foreign teachers many times, so they like seeing you face-to-face. I suggest getting some type of teaching certification (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA) before you come, especially if you don’t have a degree.
