Accra Nightlife Guide: As Told By Traveling Tee

I am a true party girl from the cradle to the casket. Part of traveling to me is to highlight NIGHTLIFE. I honestly would put it as my top 3 things I like to experience when I visit a new place. Granted, some places don’t have nightlife, and some places’ nightlife looks different than others, but you can typically see a large part of a city or country’s culture about how they get down after hours!

Ghana is known as a party capital. The Accra nightlife is something to behold, starting late and lasting well into the morning—I’m talking 10 a.m. Ghana’s DJ scene is off the chains, but live music in Accra also holds a special place in the hearts of music lovers worldwide. This article will list some of my favorite Accra bars and clubs.

Top Clubs in Accra:

Front/Back (Osu): is my hands-to-god favorite club in the world. I love the DJs, the multiple rooms, and the fact that it was started by a collective as a membership-only spot when it first opened. Front/Back on a Saturday will always be slap.

MAD (East Legon): is one of those premier clubs where sections take over the place. It’s elite in the sense that it doesn’t have a standard “dance floor” area where everyone can gather and groove. It’s always good on a Saturday or on a night with a performer.

Exhale (East Legon): More of a restaurant than a club, but people stand up, dance, pop bottles, the whole nine in here. I’ve only ever been here on random weekdays, and I loved it every time!

Best Bars in Ghana: Okay, clearly, all the best bars are in Osu, but that makes sense because Osu has vibes similar to bar streets or walking streets in other countries. Think Bourbon Street in New Orleans or Khao San Road if you know Thailand.

957 Daquiris (Osu): A daiquiri bar…what more would you like?

Republic (Osu): This is a classic Ghanaian bar off of Oxford Street where you can indulge in local spirits such as akpeteshie, palm wine, ginger shots, and Ghanaian snacking favorites.

Cloud9ine (Osu): is a vibey rooftop spot great for hookah, a few drinks, and people-watching on Oxford Street.

Best Restaurants for Pre-Gaming

La Boraccha (Labone): The hibiscus margarita is to die for. That’s it. Honestly, I’ve never been there when it was crowded, but it’s perfect for pregaming and catching up.

Santoku (Dzorwulu): Japanese restaurant that is high-priced and high-end, but the drinks are incredible. Get the cold sake! Great any day of the week, but remember that they close at 11:30 p.m.

NsuomNam (Cantonments): Owned by the President of Accra’s daughter. Frequented by the political elite. Really great atmosphere, vibe, and service. DJs are typically good at their Sunday Brunch event. Ghana has a little something for everybody here.
