Top Attractions in Aburi, Ghana: Botanical Gardens, Crafts Village, and More

Everyone comes to Accra, Ghana, but not many people leave enough time during their trip to explore the hidden gems that aren’t related to the transatlantic slave trade and the intense history of the country once known as the Gold Coast.

Aburi is a mountain town about 45 minutes from Accra, depending on traffic. There are so many things to do in Aburi, and it’s a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the pumping Accra. This article is filled with my best Aburi travel tips so that you can experience a day trip in Aburi the right way.

ABURI ATTRACTIONS

  • Aburi Botanical Gardens – A garden where you can walk around and explore natural and imported flora. You can pack a lunch, have a picnic, enjoy the grass, and spend the day resting in the greenery that surrounds the garden.
  • Aburi Crafts Village – Visiting the crafts market in Aburi is a must. Unfortunately, it’s a great market that receives less foot traffic than others, but the quality of goods and handmade items is on par with others. My favorite waist bead and beaded jewelry maker is in the Aburi Crafts Village.
  • Papaye Recreational Village – The Papaye chicken franchise’s Flagship space boasts a children’s park, sports complex, zoo, wildlife, and delicious food.
  • Scenic Views – The views from Aburi are stunning, with the landscape changing dramatically with the seasons. In certain spots, you can see the entire city of Accra below, while in others, you’ll be surrounded by rolling hills of green, especially during the rainy season.

GETTING TO ABURI: It’s best to hire a driver and have them drive you up and down the mountain so that you don’t have any issues visiting the places you want to go, and you’ll have a Ghanaian person help you shop and purchase items.
