Key facts about Bali:
- Bali is, in fact, an island in Indonesia
- Most people need* a visa to enter the country
- Bali has its own language, culture, and religion that is quite different from the rest of Indonesia
Getting to Bali: Fly into Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. The airport is in Denpasar, which is on the island of Bali.
As mentioned, Bali is an island in Indonesia, but many people refer to it as if it’s its own place, so in some ways, it has become something specific and unique. There are plenty of places to stay in Bali, but I’m going to narrow it down to about three.

WHERE TO STAY
UBUD: The cultural heart of Bali, up in the lush jungle with trees of emerald green stretching toward the sky and winding roads that look as if they’ll swallow you up to become a person of the forest who is spiritually connected and understood.
CANGGU: The space of enjoyment. Think boutiques, restaurants, nightclubs, yoga studios, hawkers, bottle service, Instagram models, and everything you could ever want or dream of at your fingertips. There is no shortage of experience, excitement, and once-in-a-lifetime chances around the corner in Canggu.
ULUWATU: The land of beaches and serenity. This is where the people go when they need a respite from the craziness that seeps through the streets of the rest of the big-name places across Bali. This is where the swankiest beach clubs are tucked away, where honeymooners come to celebrate their marriage, and where people come to blow a bag if they’re so inclined.
WHERE TO STAY: Accommodations are abundant across Bali. If you’re looking for those classic Bali shots you see on Instagram of the people at incredible accommodations, consider booking a place on Airbnb. Hotels in Bali are plentiful, and there’s everything you could want, from a backpacker’s paradise to ultra-luxe experiences.
HOW LONG: I would consider doing 3 nights & 4 days everywhere you are, especially if you’re doing Airbnb’s so that you can spend time immersing yourself in the experiences while enjoying this sick ass place you’ve booked to lay your head each night!
